Mercy in Action Day - October 26, 2019 - is an archdiocese-wide day to make the mercy of Jesus tangible in our communities through community service outreach. This year, St. Thomas a'Becket's Christian Service Outreach will focus on Samaritas House in Westland. Samaritas House provides temporary housing for homeless families and singles in Wayne County. They are provided safe shelter in their own locked room, as well as meals, transportation, laundry, medical assistance, counselling, etc.
Our parish project will be to refurbish and furnish one of the individual family units of Samaritas House.
To make this day successful, we need many volunteers! Please select a shift to join us as we "shelter the homeless." We will need painters, shoppers, decorators, sorters, drivers, etc.
Mercy in Action Day is a three-phased event:
- Outreach project 1:00-3:30 pm
- Liturgy at 4:30 Mass
- Fall Family Fun Day after Mass, beginning at 5:30 -- Chili dinner, pumpkin painting, trick or treating. Free! Free! Free! Free-will offering will be taken to purchase a washer and dryer for Samaritas House.
