Rye Cub Scout Pack 2
We hope you'll join us on our annual Winter Cabin Campout held at a 3 cabin site at Durland Scout Reservation (1 Clear Lake Road, Putnam Valley, NY 10579). Durland is about an hour drive from Rye and the “camping” is in cabins, so this is a great one for people who are not big on tents!
Friday Night, January 10th - Arrow of Light Scouts & Their Parents Only!
A key part of earning the Arrow of Light is attending a BSA Scout Troop event. Our AOL Scouts are invited to join Rye's BSA Troop 2 who camps on Friday night and departs Saturday morning. AOL Scouts are then welcome to stay with our Pack when we camp out from Saturday into Sunday.
The Troop will follow up with the AOL Scout Den Leaders and parents with logistics and other details, but in the meantime please sign up so we can give them a head-count. A parent should also attend, but not siblings as the Troop will be doing more advanced activities. The Friday night campout is free for the AOL Scouts and parents as the Troop graciously covers the expenses.
Saturday Night, January 11th - ALL Cub Scouts, Parents & Siblings!
All Cub Scouts are invited to the Pack 2 Campout on Saturday, which will start mid-day on Saturday and conclude after breakfast on Sunday. This event is open to all parents as well as siblings - feel free to bring the whole family. There will be scouting activities planned for Saturday starting at 1 PM, including a winter hike. Please pack/dress for the weather and bring your personal gear and the 6 Hike Essentials! (Check your Cub's Handbook to see what the 6 Essentials includes.)
Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast will be provided, but please take care of your own lunch on Saturday, as people tend to arrive at different times. Please also remember the Pack has gone "green" and you will need to bring a "mess kit" (ie dishes and utensils) for each attendee. We will provide everything you need to quickly wash them after your meals. We also need parents to help with the prep and clean-up. After dinner, we'll have a campfire with s'mores, skits and jokes. After the boys go to bed, adults will often play cards, so feel free to bring your cards/chips if you have them and your “A game!"
We'll sleep in bunk beds in open common rooms, but each cabin also has 1-2 private bunk rooms with 4 bunks each. We ask that everyone please save these for families with women/girls. Please bring your own bedding (a sleeping bag is fine). There are bathrooms near, but not in, the cabins. The cost for the Saturday night campout is $25/person to cover the cost of food and cabin rental.
Sign up will close at midnight on Monday, January 6th, but please don't wait for the last minute and don't forget to sign up for some volunteer spots...we need the help! Our general Pack 2 camping guide is attached, as is a shopping list for whoever volunteers to do the shopping. Questions? Email Jeremy Dorin at [email protected]
