Backpack Blessings is a wonderful opportunity to help pack much needed food for families within our local community. This volunteer opportunity may require some lifting and driving.
Volunteers are needed for several different opportunities including:
1. On monthly Fridays, volunteers collect bins from the Alter House, 1875 Stratford, NSSED (Northern Suburban Special Education District) campus in Highland Park and deliver the empty bins to the temple. Should you volunteer for bin pick-up, please contact Luciano, prior to your volunteer day, at 847.878.7508 to coordinate a pickup time on your Friday. Also - please contact the temple office to let them know when you will be dropping off the bins. PLEASE include your email address and cell phone number when you sign up.
2. Setup volunteers meet at the temple lobby at the designated time to open, organize, and set up assembly line of food for packing.
3. Repacking volunteers meet at the temple lobby at the designated times to pack up bags of food and deliver them to NSSED (North Shore Special Education District) and NSA (North Shore Academy) in Highland Park. Some light to moderate lifting and transporting of food is involved.
4. Driving volunteers will meet at the temple lobby and drive to the Alter House in Highland Park to help unload the trucks. Each box weighs approximately 25 lbs.
Should you have any additional questions or if you are not able to attend your volunteer time for whatever reason, please contact David Sweet at [email protected]
Thank you for your interest in Backpack Blessings!
