Serving Lunch to the Homeless at the Beacon
Coordinator for November 16, 2019: Kimberly Wilson (608) 287-6710 and [email protected]
Help us prepare and serve a nourishing meal for Madison's homeless population on Saturday, November 16, 2019, 12:00-1:00 (please arrive by 11:50) at The Beacon, 615 E Washington Ave.
Shaarei Shamayim has offered to support the work that The Beacon (a day shelter) is doing in terms of serving the many needs of our neighbors experiencing homelessness. We need volunteers to help provide and serve a meal one Saturday every other month. Many things can be made ahead and would make wonderful group projects for friends, families, or havurot. Our community has done this before - please reach out to our well-seasoned volunteers for suggestions and support!
You can provide, or serve, or both as suits you schedule. Funds are available to offset the cost of food - simply send receipts to Joy. Food can be dropped off at the site at 11:50 (the Beacon has it's own parking lot) or at Jeff Spitzer Resnick's home earlier in the week or by 10:30 Saturday (please email/call Jeff to arrange. He will be the on-site coordinator for this meal since Kimberly isn't able to be there. Jeff's address is 430 Sidney St. His phone # 608-206-7164 and his email address is [email protected]
Large roaster ovens are available for your use if you plan on preparing large amounts of food. Please contact Kimberly ASAP if you need one, or two! I have three available.
The parking lot and main door for the Beacon is in the back and accessed from East Main Street between Blount and Blair Streets. You may also pull in and unload to a rolling cart that the Beacon provides.
If you cannot make food and want to make a donation for this event to help defray the cost, click here.
