Beth Shalom Refugee Project Volunteers

Apartment Set Up for Refugee Family

A few important notes about donations of goods:

  • New and gently used donations are accepted.
  • All donations are tax deductible.
  • Smaller items may be dropped at Beth Shalom from 9-12 am on 9/26 and 10/3.
  • Large items such as furniture can be delivered to Beth Shalom on the above dates, or will be collected from you by volunteers on the move-in date (TBD).
  • If you would like to contribute funds to help cover costs, such as the U-Haul rental and the purchase items not donated, a link to donate will be coming here soon.
  • We are instructed to plan for a family of 6-8 people. When a specific family is identified for our apartment, we may add new items to the list, such as car seats, cribs, and school supplies, and/or adjust the amounts for items already listed.

A few notes about the move-in process and move-in day:

  • The refugee agency will let us know the family's arrival date roughly ten days before the move-in event.
  • On move-in day, we will need people to help clean the apartment, move in furniture, and unpack donated goods. If you can help with these tasks, please add your name to the last slots on the SignUp.
  • A separate SignUp has been created for kitchen pantry and refrigerator items, as well for planning a welcome meal for the family. The link to that SignUp is here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0844aba92d6-pantry
