Swarthmore Senior Citizens Association
The Swarthmore Senior Citizens Association is organizing a few trips. We visited Stoneleigh & Grounds for Sculpture. In December, we traveled to the American Helicopter Museum. In January, we'll tour the Herr's Factory in Nottingham, PA. February's trip will be to the Brandywine River Museum of Art while they host a Winslow Homer exhibit. Please sign up for any of the trips you would like to go on, however, we will try to accommodate as many members as possible.
African American Museum 3/21:
Join us as we tour the African American Museum of Philadelphis (AAMP). AAMP is committed to telling the story of African Americans throughout history including family life, the Civil Rights Movement, art and entertainment, sports, politics, religion, law and technology. We will take Septa downtown. Depending on weather and mobility, some members may chose to use Uber or a cab to get to the Museum. After lunch, we'll come back to Swarthmore Train Station.
Cairnwood Estate and Bryn Athyn Cathedral 4/30:
We are touring the historical Cairnwood Estate and Bryn Athyn Cathedral. The guided tour of the estate starts with a 15 minute video followed by a visit to the Carriage House, three floors of the Main House, including the Chapel, Cairnwood Family Gallery, and the Servant's Quarters. There is a fair amount of walking, with places to sit along the way. There is a tiny elevator, but anyone who requires an elevator will not be able to see the service wing. We'll have lunch in the Garden House before touring the Cathedral. We'll have a 45 minute guided tour and 30 minutes to enjoy the gardens. Our own Betty Dowling will share additional information about Ralph Adams Cram who was the intial architect of the Cathedral and estate house architects Carrerre and Hastings.
Phillies Game 5/30:
Let's root, root, root for the hometeam! Come watch the Phillies play the Cardinals. We have tickets in Section 202. We'll be shaded and have a great view of the Bryce Harper. SSCA will provide transportation and tickets to the game, however, lunch is not provided.
Wallingford Presybertian Strawberry Festival 6/3:
The Strawberry Festival is an annual tradition that is filled with fun, food and friends. The festival gets crowded and parking can be a challenge! We'll carpool from Swarthmore so we can go and enjoy without the hassle! Transportation is provided.
