Gamm Usher Sign Up Sheet
by Amy Herzog
From her apartment in Queens, Mary Jane navigates both the mundane and the unfathomable realities of caring for her chronically ill two-year-old son. Immersed in a world of medicines and feeding tubes, the unflinchingly optimistic single mom finds herself building a community of women from many walks of life. From the author of 4000 Miles (Pulitzer Prize finalist) and After the Revolution (Gamm 2012), Herzog’s beautifully unsentimental play is a tribute to a mother’s unconditional love and the power of empathy.
WINNER OF THE NEW YORK DRAMA CRITICS' CIRCLE AWARD FOR BEST PLAY
"A wrenching tale of everyday heroism that is all the more touching for its total lack of sentimentality. . . . It might just be Ms. Herzog's best play to date." Wall Street Journal
“[Mary Jane is] truthful in the way that Thornton Wilder’s ‘Our Town’ is, and for similar reasons. Like Wilder, Herzog has made theatre that shines from her characters’ inner life first.” The New Yorker
"Herzog at her best... Confirming its author as one of the most lucid and sensitive American playwriting voices to have emerged in the past decade." Hollywood Reporter
Ushers are to arrive one hour prior to performance time. The start time below is the exact time that we would like you to report to the theatre. The end time lets you know when you are done unless you are staying for the show.
If we are sold out and no seating is available, please see the box office manager that evening to make arrangements to see the show at another time.
It is important that you adhere to The Gamm's dress code (no exceptions): plain white dress shirt and black slacks for men, plain white blouse and black slacks/skirt for women.
If you can't make it to a shift, please call the box office as far in advance as possible (401-723-4266) to let us know. We really rely on all of you. You help make the show start on time, which is such an important part of the process.
It's always fun to do things with a partner so ask a friend to tag along! If you know of anyone that may be interested in ushering please forward this link on or let me know and I will contact them. If you don't stay for the show you're only committing an hour of your time, which is so appreciated by both the Gamm staff and the patrons. We do, however, encourage you to stay for the show if there are seats available!
