William Becknell Heritage Days
William Becknell in 1821 took a small group of men and about $300 in goods and headed West to establish some trade. They wound up in Santa Fe, NM. (September 1821 to January 1822). On May 20th of 1822 having had great success with trade on their first trip they set out this time with around 30 individuals and a large amount of trade goods. Over the next couple of years, the Santa Fe trail was established, and remained in use until the 1880’s.
William Becknell is considered the founder of the SF Trail. We are celebrating the upcoming 200th Anniversary of the founding of the trail by holding Special Event sites along the trail between now and 2021. Thanks for registering for being an operator. Steve Everley KC0VYS / WB0SFT
