Tuesday Long-term Butterfly Monitoring walks meet in front of the Nature Center, 1000 Aullwood Road. IMPORTANT! The Nature Center will be open on July 1. Masks are required for those who are not yet vaccinated.
Learn to identify native butterflies and skippers. This Community Science project looks for and records sightings of butterflies such as the Spring and Summer Azure, Silver Spotted Skipper, Question Mark, Comma, Pearl Crescent, Tiger Swallowtail and more. Binoculars recommended. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED AND WALKS ARE LIMITED TO 20 PARTICIPANTS. If you are a Friends of Aullwood member, please input your Membership number in the required question section.
This walk begins and ends at 1000 Aullwood Road, Dayton 45414. Please be ready and waiting on the sidewalk along the parking lot at the Nature Center at least 5 minutes before the scheduled start of the walk. The walk starts promptly at the scheduled start time and ends promptly at the scheduled end time.
Aullwood walks are weather dependent and are cancelled if there is thunder, lightning, heavy rain or extremely slippery conditions. NOTE: This walk may also be cancelled if weather conditions are not conducive for counting butterflies (such as high winds or too cool temperatures). The person leading the walk will send an email notification if the walk is cancelled.
*Please do not attend programs if you are feeling ill, have any of the symptoms of COVID-19 or were exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 14 days.
*If you are vaccinated, you do not have to wear a mask inside Aullwood buildings.
*Mask wearing outdoors is optional. Please be courteous and understand that some people may wish to continuing wearing a mask or would like to maintain a physical distance, even outdoors. Behavior that makes a person feel uncomfortable for wearing/not wearing a mask will not be tolerated, and the consequences may include being asked to leave the event.
*Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before and after your visit.
*If guests are not following social distancing and other guidelines, we may be forced to cancel walks or programs.
