2018 MNS Auditions
MNS will do a performance and recruiting tour in Georgia December 16-19. MNS rehearses three times a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12-12:50 p.m., in Porter 304.
Auditions are August 20-22. Past MNS members should audition on Monday to leave later times for new auditionees. The audition will begin with vocalization, then proceed to sing one's choice of parts in "Ecce gratum," the first part of a movement from Carmina Burana with the other parts played. The auditionee may sing on a neutral syllable like "pa." Each auditionee will be rated on the following categories: pitch, rhythm, voice quality, ability to stay on one's own part, and ability to stay on one's own part when singing alone. After singing with the rest of the parts being played, each student must sing a portion of his/her part alone, and be rated on that portion of the performance as well. This short solo passage will be selected by Dr. Flory at the audition. After this, each student will sing a short sight-reading passage and be rated on his/her performance on that passage as well. Sight reading ratings will be based solely on pitch and rhythm accuracy. The score and part tracks may be found here.
Callbacks will be on Wednesday, August 23, 12-1 pm, at which time Dr. Flory will listen to octets of singers sing the assigned choral song a cappella. If you have not been in a GC Choral Ensemble, you will also need a reference from a past choir director. Please enter your director's email address in the comment and I will send them the form. More information about MNS may be found here.
