Vale Church Christmas Tree Team
CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!
This is the online signup sheet for volunteers helping out with the Vale Church 2019 Christmas Tree Sale to Stop Hunger, from Saturday, Nov. 30th until Sunday, Dec. 22nd. This is our 12th year of holding the sale, which will again raise funds to package and deliver at least 75,000 meals for the hungry, in coordination with the nonprofit Rise Against Hunger. You can actually read all about our annual sale in a cool new article on the Rise Against Hunger website, here: https://www.riseagainsthunger.org/christmastree/ . (FYI, our meal packaging event will be held on Sunday, Jan. 26th.) This year, we will again donate some additional funds to LOCAL anti-hunger organizations, too. So we're fighting hunger "near and far." Once again, we hope to use our tree sale as a force for good in the world -- as well as a great opportunity to get to know our neighbors in the Oakton / Vienna / Reston / Herndon / Fairfax area.
When you sign up to work a sales shift (or several shifts :), please indicate whether you will be accompanied by another person, such as your spouse, son, daughter, neighbor or friend. This helps us know how well covered we are for that shift. Families are very welcome to work together at the tree lot, especially on Saturdays and Sundays (daytimes) and on Friday evenings - since Fridays are not school nights.
Note that we need at least two adults to work each weekday evening shift Monday through Friday (5:30 pm to 9 pm). It's OK to have more than two adults- we just can't have fewer than two adults.
On weekends, we're blessed to have strong participation from the Scouts BSA (Troop 1983) and their parents -- which is wonderful. However, other folks who are not connected with the Scouts are Very Encouraged to volunteer on weekends, too. The more the merrier! Weekends are when we tend to sell the most trees, and sometimes lots of customers will suddenly show up, and all need help at the same time. Our biggest demand this year will likely be on Sat./Sun., Dec. 7th and 8th -- so it would be great if we had lots of volunteers on those particular days. In fact, we will keep the tree lot open late (until 9 pm) on Saturday, Dec. 7th in anticipation of higher-than-usual demand on that day in particular. So it would be extra great to have plenty of volunteers at the tree stand on those two days, and to cover our special evening shift on Dec. 7th.
Note that we have at least two shifts -- a MORNING shift and an AFTERNOON shift -- every Saturday and Sunday. But we do not expect anyone to work both shifts on the same day. We'd like to keep this as a fun activity, and not burn out our volunteers.
THANKS to all of you, our great volunteers. See you at the tree lot! (Bring your work gloves, by the way...)
