Volunteers DUMC Prayer Vigil
Prayer Vigil: Be Held by God
Following the Advent Worship Service in the sanctuary on Monday, November 29th at 7:00p.m. we will enter into a 23-hour Advent Prayer Vigil. A vigil is an ancient tradition of being wakeful and watchful for a purpose. Our wakeful purpose is to pray for our church and for ourselves that Emanuel "God with us" will be manifested in our lives.
We are looking for volunteers to come and be wakeful and watchful for an hour in the sanctuary during the prayer vigil. This means you just quietly sit in the sanctuary for an hour to pray, meditate or contemplate how you need to prepare for the birth of Christ. You may sit anywhere and you can pray over the cards housed in the "prayer basket" on the altar if you feel comfortable doing so.
The sanctuary will remain open with night security provided (from 11:00pm-4:00am). You may enter and depart through the church office door entrance. A Prayer Vigil Guide was created with thoughtful meditations, prayers, and reflection questions to guide your Advent journey.
Remember, there is no right or wrong way to pray. We look forward to you volunteering to come and actively wait.
