Updated Oak City Outreach Center Host Volunteers
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone, including Oak City Cares (OCC), our partners, and the guests that we serve. The OCC Weekend Meal Program continues to be an essential service for those experiencing homelessness and food insecurity in our community.
Over the past couple of months, we have had to pivot frequently as the COVID-19 situation has evolved. Now that our community is beginning to move in the direction towards a new “normal”, the OCC Weekend Meal Program is doing the same. We are starting by having meals prepared and served by food volunteers onsite again. Although we still must limit the number of volunteers that can assist, we know that our Host Volunteers are critical support in this way.
We truly miss the community aspect of this program with the continuing need for social distancing, mass gathering restrictions, and safety precautions. However, we hope that by re-engaging our food provider and host volunteers, the sense of community can be felt and revitalized as we continue to transition towards our new “normal”.
COVID-19 Safety Protocols & Information:
- All staff, partners, and volunteers are asked to wear masks and wash/sanitize hands regularly. If you have a mask, please bring it. If you do not have a mask, we will have them available on-site if we have supplies.
- OCC provides hand sanitizer and gloves for the protection of the volunteers, guests, and staff.
- All staff, partners, and volunteers are screened, and temperature checked upon arrival. All screening results are logged in a daily temperature log.
- We promote and encourage social distancing during all aspects of the food preparation and distribution process.
If you are available, comfortable, and ready to re-engage in volunteering at OCC at this time, please sign up for one of the slots below.
