2020-2021 Committee Chair Sign-Up

The list below contains the Committees that have openings and need either a Chair and/or Co-Chair (as noted). Each position is a 2-year position (unless otherwise noted). The volunteer serves the 1st year as Co-Chair, working with an experienced Chair, and the 2nd year as Chair, working with an incoming Co-Chair. Once all slots are full, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to include added details. Please consider where you can help and sign up if possible.

Website Refresh Special Project

Redesign website to bring look & feel and navigation up-to-date. It is recommended that the volunteer have web design experience. Time Commitment-Chair: MODERATE. 25-30 hour project. (Chair Needed)

Art Club (5th-6th Grade) (Chair & Co-Chair Needed) (2)

Coordinates monthly (Oct-April) after school meetings to assist 5th and 6th grade students interested in exploring art concepts and creating art projects. In the spring, there is a trip to the Chicago Art Institute. 5th/6th grade parents suggested.

Author Visit Coordinator (Co-Chair Needed)

Assists LRC librarian and visiting authors by organizing book sales/signing for scheduled author visits throughout the year. Must be available to attend the visits.

Battle of the Books (4th Grade) (Chair & Co-Chair Needed) (2)

One year position. Assists librarian with the weekly Battle meetings over the lunch hour. Approximate time commitment is 1 hour per week most weeks Nov-Feb. 4th grade parent volunteers suggested.

Bike Safety Rodeo (Chair & Co-Chair Needed) (2)

One year position. Coordinates this September after-school event for Cossitt students from 3rd grade and up. Completion of the Bike Safety test is required for children who wish to ride their bikes to school. The Bike Rodeo has a well-established format.

Book Club (Co-Chair Needed)

Organizes the lunchtime reading program for (grades 2, 3, 6). Places participating students into groups led by a parent volunteer(s) and coordinates a volunteer training session. Includes selecting the books read by each grade.

Book Fair (Co-Chair Needed)

Coordinates 3-day fall book fair. Works with vendor, school staff and parent volunteers for fair setup, sale, cleanup and follow-up on customer orders. This is a September through November time commitment.

Boys Running Club (Co-Chair Needed)

One year position. Organizes a running club for boys grades 4-6. A spring commitment, meeting after school 2 times per week. Coordinates the group’s participation in a local 5K race at the end of the program. Preferably parent of 4th-6th grade boy.

Celebrating Cossitt Curriculum (CCC) (Co-Chair Needed)

Coordinates CCC activities prior to and during the class festivals with volunteers from grades 1–6. It is also recommended that the CCC Chair be the parent of an older child so they are familiar with the majority of CCC programs and can consult.

Cheers for Cossitt (Chair & Co-Chair Needed) (2)

Plans annual social event for Cossitt Parents. Conceptualizes event, and manages committees (i.e. decorations, venue, food/beverage, publicity). Event typically takes place in April. *IMPORTANT NOTE: Will only move forward once cleared by D102.

Clean Out Your Desk (Chair Needed)

Organizes and publicizes end-of-year locker/desk clean out in order to donate reusable school supplies. Coordinates the sorting and delivery of items the last day of school.

District 102 Positive School Climate Committee (PSCC) (Co-Chair Needed)

Represents Cossitt on the D102 PSCC, providing information to and from Cossitt and the PSCC. Helps with at least one District-wide PSCC related program. Occasional commitment throughout the year in promoting others school’s event and organizing one.

Family Fun Night (Co-Chair Needed)

Plans a winter family event in Jan/Feb, designed to promote total family participation. Coordinate with outside vendors, plan activities, refreshments, parent volunteers, etc.

Garden Pavers (Chair & Co-Chair Needed) (2)

Coordinates the sale of the education garden pavers and coordinates paver installation. 1-year commitment as this is every other year event.

One year position. Organizes a running club for girls, grades 4-6. A spring commitment meeting after school 2 times per week. Coordinates participation in a local 5K race at the end of the program. Preferably parent of 4th-6th grade girl.

Organizes several lunches/breakfasts/treats for teachers and staff on special occasions (back to school, conferences, teacher appreciation week, etc) and for students (buddy popsicles, ice cream social, etc).

Legacy Project (6th Grade) (Chair Needed)

One year position. Helps coordinate with the school on a legacy project for the 6th grade students. Preferably a parent of a 6th grader.

March Madness 5th Grade Book Tournament (Co-Chair)

Organizes the 5th grade reading competition and helps run weekly lunchtime meetings for the teams from January-April, assisting in final championship competition in April.

Works with Original Works Company and Cossitt art staff. Original Works is a fundraising program that sells students’ original artwork on mugs, t-shirts, magnets and more. Work with Original Works Company and Cossitt art staff.

Work with D102 schools in a committee to plan and organize the district 5k and 1-mile run fundraiser. Serve as a conduit of information between the Run Committee and Cossitt.

School Supplies (Chair Needed)

Coordinates sale and distribution of school supply kits families order online in the spring for the next school year. Creates and distributes online order form. Kits are delivered to Cossitt and Chair coordinates volunteers to sort kits to classrooms.

Science Center Reps (Co-Chair Needed)

Represents Cossitt on the Science Center Board. Helps plan programs and fundraisers. Attends monthly meetings and reports activities to the PTC. Commitment lasts throughout the year.

Social Fundraisers (Co-Chair Needed)

Solicit Cossitt families to host social fundraising parties that families can purchase tickets to attend via SignUp Genius. Assist in compiling descriptions of the parties for the sign-up.

Spiritwear (Co-Chair Needed)

Organizes the sale of Cossitt SpiritWear and accessories. Works with an outside vendor to coordinate the sale, prepares communications about the sale, and trouble-shoots as needed.

STEM Lab Coordinator (Chair Needed)

Works with Cossitt staff to replenish supplies or facilitate new purchases for the STEM lab. Work to establish lunch clubs and after school programs and act as a liaison between these clubs and the PTC.

This is a large event taking place in the spring. Coordinates recruiting performers/exhibitors, finding a venue, promoting the event, and holding rehearsals.

Works closely in a collaborative environment with school representatives and PTC board leadership to shape the vision for the Tiger Fun Run. Leads all aspects of the run including income and expense planning, logistics, marketing, and communications.
