Bags of Hope Volunteers
St. Vincent de Paul distributes "Bags of Hope" to people in need 365 days a year. Guests take a bag as they exit our Dining Room after having lunch. We serve lunch to an average of 350 guests daily at St. Vincent de Paul. For most guests, the "Bag of Hope" is their evening meal.
We make these bags on Monday's, Thursday's and Saturday's from 8:30 AM until 10:30 AM in the Dining Room of St. Vincent de Paul located at 220 St. Vincent de Paul Place. We would like to have 10 volunteers on Monday's and 20 volunteers on Thursday's and Saturday's to assist in making the bags. Children that are at least six years old are welcome to be "Bags of Hope" volunteers as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
As a "Bags of Hope" volunteer, you might make sandwiches or you might break large bags of items down into smaller portions in Ziploc bags. The bags contain a beverage, chips, cookies or other small items that have been donated to us.
St. Vincent de Paul purchases the meat and condiment packets or peanut butter and jelly used for the sandwiches. If you are able to bring enough of these supplies to make 300 sandwiches, we would be most grateful. The money we save from not having to purchase the supplies can be used for other wonderful things for those we serve. This is certainly not mandatory, but if you are able to assist in this way, we would be most grateful.
If you decide to sign up to be a "Bags of Hope" volunteer, we ask that you arrive in the Dining Room of St. Vincent de Paul at 8:30 AM. Please wear long pants (or capris for ladies), a shirt with a sleeve and close-toed shoes. If you are unable to come on the day you signed up, please remove your name from the Sign Up Genius so that another person will have the opportunity to volunteer.
We are so grateful that you are partnering with St. Vincent de Paul to provide hope and sustenance to some of the most vulnerable members of our community. If you have any questions, please phone Desha Martin, St. Vincent de Paul Volunteer Coordinator, at 383-7837, ext. 207.
