It's time for the Chess and Checkers Club! All students in grades 1-6 are invited to join the always popular Chess and Checkers Club on Friday mornings from 8:00-8:30 in 5M. Students can explore the games of chess or checkers, as well as a number of other fun and educational games. Parents are more than welcome to join in the fun, too!
Did you know...
-Research shows, there is a strong correlation between learning to play chess and academic achievement. In 2000, a landmark study found that students who received chess instruction scored significantly higher on all measures of academic achievement, including math, spatial analysis, and non-verbal reasoning ability (Smith and Cage, 2000).
-Eight and nine year-old minds and thinking skills are developing rapidly, and chess teaches higher level thinking skills such as the ability to visualize, analyze, and think critically.
