The mission of Youth Emergency Services is to serve homeless and nearly homeless youth by providing critically-needed resources to empower them to become self-sufficient. Part of our work includes providing meals to approximately fifty youth per day at YES' Street Outreach Center.
We are always in need of volunteers to help prepare, donate, and deliver meals to our Street Outreach Center.
The Street Outreach Center asks that meals are delivered at the following times:
Mondays: 12:00 pm
Tuesdays: 2:00 pm
Wednesdays: 2:00 pm
Thursdays: 2:00 pm
Fridays: 12:00 pm
What kind of food should I bring? The youth enjoy any food that is cooked with love by our volunteers. Pastas, burgers, casseroles, sandwiches, soups, etc. Taco/nacho and baked potato bars are always popular! We ask that all meals only contain fresh and unexpired ingredients.
Can I have the meal catered? Absolutely. Pizza, sandwiches, or other catered options are always welcomed. Please add desired tip when placing order. YES staff cannot add tip upon delivery.
Are there any food restrictions? No, however if you are willing to make a second, smaller size dish that is meatless, that would be welcomed!
Do I need to have the meal fully cooked upon delivery? Yes. The Outreach Center does not have a stovetop. There is an oven available if a dish needs to be reheated. A steam table is used to keep all dishes warm throughout the evening.
How many youth does the meal need to feed? We ask that the meal feeds fifty youth.
Do I need to provide plates, napkins, cups, or utensils? We can have these available onsite, but donations of these items are always appreciated!
Do I need to provide drinks? It is not required, but would be great if you could! The youth love Kool-Aid, Gatorade, soda, and milk. Bottled water is great, too. We have a drink dispenser that powdered drinks can be prepared in.
What should I bring the meal in? Disposable foil pans work very well. If you bring the meal in personal pans that you would like returned, we can transfer the food into our own pans upon delivery.
Where do I deliver the meal? Our Outreach Center is located at 2602 Harney. There is parking onsite.
What can I expect upon delivery? A member of the Outreach team will assist you with carrying the meal inside. If needed, food can be transferred into our pans. The meal is served buffet style, allowing the youth to make their plate at any point during business hours. Because of this, there is no need for the meal to be physically served.
Can I receive a receipt for my donation? Absolutely. Please ask a member of the Outreach staff to provide a receipt upon delivery. Contact Maren Larsen if requesting after delivery.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule my meal? If you are no longer able to provide a meal on the day you signed up for, you can cancel or reschedule your date below. If you are canceling on the day of your meal, please contact Maren Larsen at [email protected] or 402-345-5187, so other arrangements can be made as we rely heavily on our volunteers and meal signup.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Maren Larsen, Mentor & Volunteer Coordinator, at [email protected] or 402-345-5187.
Thank you for your support!
