LOU Parent Academy Childcare Volunteers
LOU Reads has partnered with the Barksdale Reading Institute to provide a free program designed to help parents prepare their three, four and five-year-old children for a successful start to kindergarten. Any parents with PreK or Kindergarten children in the LOU Community that feed into Bramlett Elementary School’s and Lafayette Lower Elementary School’s kindergarten may participate.
The program covers a series of kindergarten-readiness topics: general development, oral language, alphabet/writing, reading, and math. The modules are conducted once-a-month at the schools from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. Parents will receive hands-on instruction and be given free materials and activities to take home and use with their children to support their learning and development. Door prizes, snacks, and limited childcare will also be provided!
Childcare...that's where we need YOUR help!
We do not want anything to hinder parents from participating. One thing that might do that is if they do not have childcare. Look at the dates/locations below to see where you may be able to volunteer to help us out with watching children while their parents LEARN! Children will be kept in either school's gym and will be provided a snack. You will need to arrive at between 5-5:15pm, and we should wrap up no later than 7:15pm.
Your help will be greatly appreciated!
