It's that time of year again, and we are so excited for another season of Olentangy Girls Cross Country!! As you all know, our pasta dinners are a big part of the program. If you are new, I'll explain how it works. Someone signs up to host each individual dinner, and others sign up to bring all the different elements of the meal. We also ask for volunteers to sign up and help with serving, this aspect of the meal affords the parents an opportunity to get to know the girls just a little bit better.
You can sign up to host one or multiple dates, and don't be afraid to sign up to bring food for multiple dates if you love to make or buy any one thing in particular. I have a friend who's children attend Liberty and she signs up to bring all the bread sticks to every dinner.
The host will provide a space for the girls to be served, and a place to eat their meals. Usually this happens in a backyard if the weather permits. This year we are asking the host families to provide the noodles and sauces. This will help tremendously when it comes to the logistics of transporting the food.
Trying to figure out how much to bring? Plan on serving 30-35 girls. All the food items come with how many servings are in each box of pasta or jar of sauce. Just multiply accordingly. Pasta can be the noodle of your choice, but we have found that rigatoni, penne, and rotini are easy to serve. Those of you who sign up to bring cheese and bread, I would plan on providing one small jar of parmesean cheese per dinner, 2 garlic breadsticks and 2 meatballs (per girl). Drinks are another popular part of the meal. Some ideas are: jugs of lemonade or flavored drinks, as well as bottled water, juice boxes, and Capri Suns. Dessert ideas are: cookies, donut holes, cupcakes, brownies. Just keep in mind, it's great if they can just grab it and move through the line. Plan on 2 desserts per girl also.
We appreciate everyones help on this!! You guys are AWESOME! The girls are always starving after running and these dinners fill them up and get them ready for race day.
