Leawood Fire Department
The Leawood Fire Department offers a CPR / AED / Basic First Aid course certified by ASHI (American Safety & Health Institute) on the first Saturday of each month at 9:00 AM. If the first Saturday is a holiday, then the class is on the next Saturday.
There is no charge for the training as it is offered as a public service to our community. However, since it does cost the department to provide the training, we are required to restrict the training to those with some type of tie to Leawood. Examples of a Leawood tie include living here, working here, volunteering here, etc. By signing up for a course, you are certifying that you meet this requirement.
These classes fill up and do cost money to host. Please do not sign-up and be a no-show. If you sign up and are unable to attend, please delete your sign-up prior to the date of class.
There are no age limits for this training but children need to be able to sit through a 3-4 hour course, retain knowledge, and perform hands-on skills demonstrations. Typically, kids who are old enough for babysitting, Boy and Girl Scouts, etc., do well.
Typically, classes are restricted to 18 students due to space constraints and required instructor / student ratios. However, during the COVID-19 Pandemic, classes are limited to 12 students to ensure proper social distancing. All students are required to wear a mask.
The class typically lasts 3-4 hours depending on the size of the class and experience levels of the students. Successful completion results in a certification card good for two years which is emailed after the course.
The course is located at Leawood Fire Station 33 (14801 Mission Rd). Use the back parking lot, enter the back door, and the classroom is the first door on the left.
