Laundry Transportation Duty Description:
MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY MORNING: The night before, between 8:15 & 9:00 PM, call the Overnight Manager (573-823-0271) to learn if there is dirty laundry to be picked up.
Arrive at the shelter between 6:00 and 7:00 AM.
SUNDAY MORNING pick up the dirty laundry between 7:30AM and 12:30 PM.
The laundry should be in CLEAR bags and marked “Room at the Inn” with a Sharpie. (The laundering is done in the prison. They WILL NOT accept anything in a bag that they can't see through. If laundry is in anything but a clear bag, please leave it at the shelter.)
Take the bags to the locked room on the University Hospital loading dock. (Directions below) Call 882-2919 to ask the laundry personnel to let you into the locked room. If no one picks up her phone, call 882-3487 and ask Gwen Smith to do so. If you don’t reach anyone at either of those numbers, call 882-7147 and ask security to come to the loading dock and let you into the building. Please text Ruth Milledge the number of bags that you delivered.
MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY EVENING: Enter the hospital through the swinging doors across from the locked room. Locate the cart(s) with Room at the Inn written on the brown paper cover. Transfer the laundry into blue Ikea bags provided. Hand the bags of laundry down from the loading dock to your vehicle, or take the bags down the stairway (5 steps) to your car. Deliver the clean laundry to the shelter before 7:00 PM. Please text Ruth Milledge the number of carts that held laundry to be picked up. (i.e. 1/4 cart, 1 1/2 cart, etc.) When there is an envelope in the cart with an invoice, take it with the clean laundry to the shelter and put it in the Laundry Coordinator’s folder.
Directions to the loading dock: Hospital Drive runs east and west between College and Tiger Ave. Take it to Dean Dr. (between the west end of University Hospital and the east side of the parking garage) and turn north. Just past the Missouri Psychiatric Center on your right, turn right onto the drive to the loading dock. Follow it back to the near end of the loading dock. Behind the dumpsters is a stairway (5 steps). You can use these steps to carry the laundry to and from the loading dock. If you prefer, you can hand the bags of laundry up to and down from the dock. Once on the loading dock, you will see a locked metal building to the right (south). The dirty laundry goes there. Across from that building are swinging doors into the hospital where you will find the carts of clean laundry. Each cart will be covered with a piece of paper marked RATI.
Contact Person: Ruth Milledge, Call or text 573-268-9591.
