Thank you for volunteering to sew for Sewing Hearts!
All volunteers need to attend a new volunteer workshop. These workshops are not beginner sewing classes. Angel Dresses are made from delicate wedding gown fabric and can be difficult to sew. The workshop takes you through the process so you are ready to begin on your own when you get home.
You will need to bring your sewing machine, scissors, pins, pin cushion, seam ripper, etc with you to the workshop. Please make sure that your sewing machine is ready to go before you attend. Sitting down at your machine and test sewing some straight stitch and zig zag may be helpful since these are the stitches we use. We will help you adjust the length of stitches just be sure you know how to make these adjustments on your machine. Please have your machine threaded with white thread.
We will provide you with a cut out Angel Dress to sew during the workshop as well as patterns and instructions for making the Angel Dresses and Wraps at home. We will send you home with some cut Angel Dresses to start with. We provide the wedding gowns, but you will need to purchase on your own as needed matching thread, ribbons, and lining. Please do not purchase anything until after you have attended the new volunteer workshop.
During the workshop, we will show you how to create an Angel Dress moving through each step providing tips and tricks to help you along the way. You will be able to sit at your machine and create your first Angel Dress. Current volunteers will be there to help answer questions and offer guidance if needed.
Although most of our volunteer seamstresses have decades of sewing experience, they have found it helpful to attend the workshop since they may not be experienced in making such tiny garments out of delicate and slippery fabric.
Seams Sew easy doesn't open until 1000am.
We will break around 1230 so please bring a light lunch to eat while we get to know one another.
