Manatee Village Historical Park
Manatee Village Historical Park will host a digital book talk by Guest Speaker Dr. Erwin Wunderlich. Dr. Wunderlich will hold a presentation titled “Richmond’s Treasure Comes to Florida” that centers on his historical fiction novel, Drummer Boy on the Run. This is a story about a young man who guided the 2nd Florida Infantry Regiment to battle and their surrender at Appomattox Court House. Afterwards, he finds himself entangled in a scheme to hide Richmond’s gold and silver. According to legend, the treasure crossed into Florida in May of 1865 and its complete whereabouts today are unknown.
Dr. Wunderlich grew up in Bradenton and enjoys creating stories about Florida and the Civil War. He is an award-winning author and fifth-generation Floridian. Dr. Wunderlich’s initial novel, Salvos On The Backwater, is a story about the hardships of Civil War Florida written from a civilian's perspective. It won several first place literary awards including the Patrick D. Smith Award.
