2018-2019 Academic Sign-Up

WELCOME TO 2018/19 VOLUNTEERING

Welcome to the volunteering sign up process!  The new tabbed system allows you to seamlessly view all the positions available for volunteering. All the sign ups are linked together so you can easily get from one category to the next from any of the volunteer category tabs.

REQUIREMENTS AND GUIDELINES

All families from Preschool to 8th Grade are required to fulfill the volunteering commitment or buy out options at various levels. Your level of requirement is based on your eldest child and is described in the requirements below.  The credit value for each volunteer position is listed next to the job title.  Each family must complete the Sign Up Genius to be placed in a volunteer position for the 2018-2019 school year.  Most of the listed positions are filled on a first come, first served basis. If you are able to populate your name into a position it is your position for the 2018-2019 academic year, however all positions are subject to The Parish School Administrative approval. Only those positions listed on the Sign Up Genius are available for next school year.  We value the efforts of all our families and the Parish School needs your TIME, TALENT or TREASURE to make every year successful.  If you have an interest in volunteering in a position that is not listed, please email us at [email protected]

IN ADDITION TO EACH FAMILY’S PARTICIPATION IN THE VOLUNTEER SERVICE PROGRAM, FAMILIES ARE ALSO ASKED TO DO THE FOLLOWING: 

  • DONUT SALES: FIRST GRADE FAMILIES are required to sell donuts at Mass one or two Sundays throughout the year.  A master calendar will be sent to all First Grade families with dates and names. 
  • FIESTA WEEKEND: Due to construction of the new Parish Hall and Offices, the parking lot areas will be impacted, thus we will not sponsor a Parish Fiesta in May 2019. As a result we will not have Fiesta volunteer positions as were offered in the past.

 

CREDIT REQUIREMENTS: (based on the grade of your eldest child)

Time & Talent or Treasure

PRESCHOOL 2 day a week program  =   0.5 credit required  or  $500 buy out option

PRESCHOOL 3 day a week program  =   1.0 credit required  or  $1,000 buy out option

PRESCHOOL 5 day a week program  =   1.5 credit required  or  $1,500 buy out option

TYKE - 8TH GRADE = a total of 1.5 credits required or $1,500 buy out option (any positions or buy outs that together accumulate to 1.5 credits)

 

BUY-OUT OPTIONS - Treasure 

If a family chooses not to participate in the Volunteer Service Program, they must choose the buy out option and the School Administration will facilitate payment via your FACTS account. We appreciate your treasure as a meaningful way of volunteering to The Parish School.  

1.5 credits -$1,500.00

1.0 credit - $ 1,000.00         

0.5 credit - $500.00

 

FINGERPRINTING / SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING

All volunteers who work directly with children on a regular basis (including driving for field trips or sports events) must be fingerprinted through the Diocese of Orange and complete an online Safe Environment training course. The course training link is available from the Welcome Center.  After the course is completed, please print out the certificate and turn in to the school office.

Please contact the welcome center office for the fingerprinting forms, details and locations.  Volunteers may only begin working after their fingerprinting is cleared and their Safe Environment certificate has been received in the school office. Fingerprinting may take a few weeks for complete verification to be returned back to the school administration.

Academics - Literacy Task Force - Battle of the Books Chairperson 1.5 credits (2)

Continue to develop and refine Battle of the Books. The committee meets about 8 times a year and plans and attends book club events and the main "battle event" at the end of the year. Meets with Dr. Muzzy in separate meetings.

Academics - Literacy Task Force - Battle of the Books Committee Member 1.5 credits (8)

Assist in the "BOB" study and battle process. Be available to attend BOB meetings, and Book Clubs on Tuesday mornings at 7am and the main "battle event" at the end of the year.

Academics - Literacy Task Force - Battle of the Books Reader 1.5 credits (14)

Read 5 books between June - October 31 and write 100 questions per book. Books will be assigned in June. Can be done entirely at home. One training meeting is required in May/June 2018. Open to all parents.

Plan the 2 week Book Fair event during Catholic School week at the end of January. Serve as liaison between school, volunteers, and Scholastic Book Fair. Coordinate hours of parent volunteers. Promote, decorate and direct operations.

PRE-APPOINTED parent volunteers are needed to facilitate the coaching and coordination of the school's academic decathlon program. A team coordinator and remaining coaches will be appointed by the administration when team is selected & confirmed.

Quick Turnaround Required! October - December. Assigned to read one book and write 500 detailed questions on the material selected in October. All work can be done at home and shared electronically. Only open to parents OUTSIDE the Decathlon Program.

The chairpersons of the STREAM committee helps coordinate the monthly meetings and helps plan the two Family STREAM nights (November and March) including monthly meetings, communications, planning, and logistics.
