Provide Sunday Lunch at A Just Harvest

On the 2nd Sunday of every month, Hakafa members bring lunch to A Just Harvest's community kitchen. Please drop off food at kitchen door (in alley behind the building) around 10:00 am Sunday morning. (Chicken can be picked up and delivered at 11 am). Details are below.

COVID-19 UPDATE: No volunteers are permitted in the kitchen due to Covid-19 protocols. The kitchen now serves a daily boxed lunch (no seated dinner). We will continue to provide the fried chicken entree, salad, vegetables, fruit and dessert on the 2nd Sunday morning of the month. Please see details below. Need help? Please email Monique ([email protected]) for tax-exempt form, for Hakafa reimbursement form, or if you would prefer not to go inside Jewel and need someone to pick up and deliver the chicken.

The kitchen address is 7649 N Paulina St, Chicago, IL 60626. It is located one block north of Howard Street and the Howard El stop. Please drop off food at kitchen door, which faces alley on the back side of the building.

Order & drop off fried chicken

Order chicken from Jewel-Osco, 1763 W. Howard St., Chicago. (Gateway Plaza) Phone: 773-274-1287. Ask for Deli. Call midweek to order 350 pieces of fried chicken & confirm 11 am Sunday pickup! Cost is approx $325 and Hakafa will reimburse.

Drop off vegetables

32-36 pounds of canned or frozen vegetables, preferably corn, broccoli, green beans or peas. Typically the kitchen cooks the vegetables they have on hand and what you supply will replenish their stock. The budget for vegetables is $30

 

Drop off salad

18 pounds of salad as well as 1 or 2 large bottles of salad dressing: Italian or French, NOT Ranch! Budget is $30

 

Drop off Fruit

enough fruit for 150 servings such as bulk apple sauce, fruit cocktail or fresh fruit. (Watermelon can be cut up at the kitchen, but other fruit cannot be cut up onsite.) Budget is $25-$30

 

Drop off dessert

Homemade or purchased baked goods are appreciated - please bring enough for 150 servings! Budget $20-$40
