Austin Mennonite Church

Boots, Buckets, and Barrows Volunteers

VOLUNTEERS
All volunteers should be available 1.5 to 2 hours prior to the show time. A crew member, or Ted, will orient them to their roles, but they may like to know expectations as outlined below.

ROLES

Bucket wrangler: Critical ahead of time role of person who rounds up all the
breads/cakes and baskets, and ensures there are at least 12 committed. Makes sure
to ask people to include stories and be creative! Work starts weeks beforehand.
Bucket receptionist: Receiving items at the table when bucket-donators arrive. If
possible note names of makers and their story. Pre-show

Bucket strategist: Decides on the order that goods will be auctioned. Important
that they understand to lead off with a spectacular item to get things going. It’s
important to have this person engaged during the show. This person will need to
attach a number to each item, and have a corresponding tag with the number on it
to be given to the winning bidder. Pre-show and During Show

Bucket Runners: Deliver number tag to winning bidder. This role is important in
setting the energy for the auction. Smiling, energetic runners can make a big
difference. They need to sit near the stage for quick access. During Show

Payment and ticket receiver: Receives tickets and payments at the door. At the end of the show this person helps the MDS person take the payment for the winning bids, and gives the winner their bucket/basket. A representative from MDS will be present at this table to directly receive payment and process credit card payments. Before and after show.

Bucket bidder plants: It is a good idea to have several people prepared to bid
each other up for the first few items. It is not always immediately clear to the
audience what is expected from the auction and this can help add energy.

OTHER ROLES

Ushers: Greet people, be alert and helpful to people throughout the event, hand out programs, and help with seating.

MC: Person to get up and introduce the show, Ted & Co and MDS
Organization presenter: If there is an offering, this is someone who can stand up
and talk about the work of MDS, or their personal story working with MDS, just
before the offering. We will be in touch about this as we find out more from MDS.

Staffing Ted and Company table: Ted has DVDs, tee-shirts, and other items for
sale, and Jeff has CDs, so we need someone to cover the merchandise table and
handle money. There is a credit card machine app that Ted can give instructions
for, and we will provide a cash bag.

Lighting: Operates the spotlights from the balcony.

Props: Arranges to have requested props available for the show and then returns the props to owners.

Food: Provides healthy food for actors and volunteers before the show. Available in kitchen area.

Changing Room: Creates a curtained changing room in a front corner of the sanctuary.
