West Potomac Band Patrons Organization
The West Potomac Marching Band participates in competitions on select Saturdays during the fall. These competitions take place away from West Potomac. As we get closer to the dates of the competitions and we are given our performance time(s) (usually 3-4 days out), we will have a better idea of the time commitment. Generally the competition days are an all-day commitment.
CHAPERONES: Our most important responsibility is staying with the students and assisting them in their preparation to perform. Chaperones stay with the band at all times except when they are on the field performing. During the performance, chaperones are together in the stands, or if assigned, assist the pit with their instruments. There is a lot of walking involved so it is highly recommended that you wear comfortable shoes to chaperone.
PIT CREW: Also known as the Pit Papas & Pit Mamas, the Pit Crew is responsible for assisting the pit musicians in transporting their instruments (e.g. marimbas, vibraphones, gong, electronics) and the drum major platforms. On the day of the competition, we report to the band's practice site at WPHS at the announced time (varies). When the band is finished practicing, we load the equipment onto the truck and carpool to the competition. At the competition, we unload the truck upon arrival and await the band and the performance. Afterward, we load the truck for transport home. We unload the truck upon return to WPHS and await the band for access to the school to store the equipment.
