As blessed as Briar Woods is, there are still families experiencing financial hardship. Many of these students are unable to afford formal wear for Prom. Maria Vallarino, who works at Briar Woods, established a non profit, Irene's Prom Closet, several years ago in honor of her daughter Irene who died several years ago. Her mission is to gather new and/or gently used formal wear and provide clothes and accessories, at no cost, for homecoming and prom to LCPS students who may not otherwise be able to attend these events for financial reasons.
Maria finances many of the extra things out of her own pocket. And, when asked what she needed help with, she came up with a wish list of things that would make those in need of a little extra help feel special for prom.
If you feel led to help with this effort, please consider making a small purchase of any of these items. In addition to this wishlist, Maria is requesting gently used Men and Women's dress shoes. Sue Spiotto, our parent liason, is coordinating the effort beginning Feb 24 and will have a box in the office where all of these items wil be collected through March 18.
Thanks so much for your consideration and generosity!
If you have any questions, please let me know.
