KIDS FISHING TRIP
Join Troop 227 and Pack 227 on an ocean fishing trip.
Date- Friday August 16th arrive by 6 am, boat departs at 6:30am. I would anticipate the boat returning between 11:30 am and 12 pm.
Location- Pierpoint Landing 200 Aquarium Way, Long Beach, CA 90802, next to the Aquarium of the Pacific.
Cost- The trip was donated by Friend of Rollo, http://www.captainrollos.org/. We will be asking for a $10 per person to secure your spot as a donation to the charity. Also, if you use Amazon for shopping find Friends of Rollo on Amazon Smile so part of your purchase supports them.
Who- Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of Troop 227 and Pack 227. We need train adult leaders from each group, a few parents, and scouts. Follow the link below for the sign up genius.
Parking- Park as shown above, go to the office and get a parking pass ($3), then return and place on car. Gather belonging and line up as shown.
Tackle- All rod, reel, tackle, bait are included, no experience needed. If your child is an ocean angler and has favorite ocean gear (15-20 lbs) tackle, in good working condition, that they know how to use, they are welcome to bring it. Rods and Reels will be provided to the youth at no charge. Any lost or mishandled/damaged rentals will be your responsibility to replace or repair.
Clothing- Cold in the morning, warm in the afternoon, shorts and sweatshirt, water proof boats or tennis shoes you don’t mind getting wet, a rag, hat sunglasses,etc. Scouts are encourage to always bring their 10 essentials, https://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Essentials_for_the_Outdoors.
Food- Included is lunch and a drink. All other galley food and drinks are available at a cost, bring extra cash if you want extra snacks, food, breakfast foods, etc. Bring whatever you like in a softside cooler or bag, no hard side coolers.
Any staff and scouts (16 and older) accompanying the youth during the fishing trip must have a valid California Fishing License per DFW regulations. One day fishing licenses are available for purchase at the landing, at local tackle stores, online https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Licensing/Online-Sales
Seasickness- I recommend Dramamine, take one in the evening, and one in the morning when you wake up. Or your preferred medicine. Avoid greasy meals in the morning, no McDonalds, try breads and cereals. When on the boat, avoid candy and sodas, stay out of galley, focus on the horizon, breath fresh air. Drink lots of water!
Restrooms available on board, male and female.
The Fish- We will be fishing for bass, barracuda, rockfish, Bonita, mackerel. If you child wants to keep the fish they will need to purchase a fish sack ($2) on the boat, fish cleaning is either fillet or gill and gut, or take them home and do it yourself. Cost is $1 a fish to fillet or clean.
Friend of Rollo will take pictures during the trip and has permission to use them in press releases.
