"Be strong and of good courage, be not frightened, neither be dismayed: for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Johua 1:9
Our world today is truly calling us all to be full of courage and love for others. Many harsh and incapacitating factors, a result of war and violence, are forcing millions to flee their homes, becoming refugees.
In the Portland Metro area, Refugee Care Collective serves diverse populations of refugees that are being resettled. Their constructive guidance helps to empower refugees to rebuild their lives and slip more fully into self sustainability and a new life with hope. Restart Kits, filled with essential items are distributed by Refugee Care Collective to local resettlement agencies that they are in partnership with. Also they give to service providers and community members who then give directly to newly arrived families and those in need.
On May 17th, Women of Vision in Action will again join with Refugee Care Collective in providing Restart Kits. With each Restart Kit that is put together, we are reminded that it is oftentimes in our small actions that others' realities are changed. These kits symbolize hope and communicate the message of "welcome".
This year we have chosen the "newborn, 2T-3T and 4T-5T" kits. Place your items (from the list below) in a clear plastic tub with a lid. The requested tub measurements are 23 1/2" L, 16 7/8" W, and 12 1/4" H. A smaller size could be used depending on how many items you purchase. This clear plastic tub can be purchased at Target, Wallmart, or Big Lots.
Here are the items for your kit:
Onesies and diapers, pacifiers, sippy cups, rattles, baby blankets, baby wipes, small toys, and clothing, especially for toddlers 2T-3T and 4T-5T.
As we have done in the past, three collection locations for you to deliver your restart kits will be utilized. The time for you to drop off your Restart Kits will be 9:45 to 10:00 on Tuesday morning, May 17th. A reminder will go out a week prior to the event with the addresses of the three locations.
God bless you all as you consider helping with this project. Your love and generosity shines out to others.
