Congregation Beth Am
Beth Am Home and Hope 2019
Once again Beth Am will be welcoming Home and Hope to our Synagogue. We will be hosting from November 17-24. We need lots of volunteers to make this project a success.
Home and Hope is a program where families on the road to self-sufficiency stay in our Social Hall for a week. This is the sign up sheet for the Home and Hope volunteer week. In order to make this week a success, we need a lot of help from different members of the congregation. Kids of all ages are encouraged to participate in all Home and Hope events and Beth Am gives first priority to families wishing to volunteer together. Please feel free to send the sign-up sheet around to other Beth Am families.
PLEASE ONLY SIGN-UP FOR ONE SLOT INITIALLY SO OTHERS CAN VOLUNTEER. (If we need more volunteers we will send out another call closer to the Home and Hope week.)
WE ALWAYS NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR THE OVERNIGHT - THIS IS A GREAT AND POWERFUL EVENING FOR FAMILIES.
Volunteer Opportunities Include:
Evening Coordinator: (5:30 - 8:45)
Very easy and essential. A person/family that can be at the Synagogue from 5:30 - 8:45 to be the point person for each evening. Assisting volunteers and troubleshooting when necessary.
Make & Serve Dinner: (5:30-7:30)
An opportunity to meet and get to know the Home & Hope families while providing for an essential need.
Prepare dinner at home and serve at Beth Am (or use the kitchen to cook) and then stay and eat with the families (No pork, shellfish or nuts please)
Activity: (7:00 - 8:45)
Play and do activities/crafts with the children (giving their parents a bit of R & R), Chat with the adults, help with homework, prepare lunches for the next day.
Overnight: (8:45 pm - 7:00 am)
The easiest job around, you and a friend/spouse/family member show up, visit a little, turn off the lights (9 pm or earlier if everyone is in bed before that; families with young children generally go to sleep early)
Turn the lights back on at 6 am, set out breakfast for the guests, van comes for the families at 7 am and your job is complete
Set Up & Take Down:
• Great community building activity • Set up tents, blow up air mattresses, put linens out, get breakfast and lunch food stations set up, set up kids' table/activity center, put up paper to cover windows • Take down is the reverse
