Pandemic Collective, a horror theatre company based in Denver, is horrified to announce auditions for Laveau, directed by Rhea Amos!
Last year, Pandemic Collective received an envelope in the mail with no return address and no name. When we opened the envelope, we found a script titled Laveau penned by an unnamed writer, written on old paper with a typewriter. In the tale, Brigitte, a girl in New Orleans, begins having vivid nightmares about the bayou. As the nightmares become more surreal, a voodoo-esque magic bleeds into her life, blurring the line between dreams and reality. This surreal, spooky, and beautiful piece will feature live shadow puppetry designed by Katy Williams.
We are seeking African American actors for the following roles:
BRIGITTE - teens to 20’s - a young girl haunted by vivid nightmares of the bayou. She is brave, kind, and cursed. We are looking for an actor who is comfortable with movement.
MAMA - 40’s to 70’s - Brigitte’s grandmother. She has a mean streak and obsessively maintains protective voodoo rituals.
WES - teens to 20’s - a young man, hopelessly in love with Brigitte. He has a terrific sense of humor and is desperate to run away with Brigitte. We are looking for an actor who is comfortable with movement.
Pandemic Collective is a Denver-based theatre company dedicated to infecting the masses through horror theatre. By engaging artists and audiences across all mediums, we seek to collaborate as a cultural force to rouse outrage and fear in hope of social change. Pandemic Collective utilizes artists outside of the conventional performing arts medium (i.e. graphic designers, photographers, sculptors, pick your poison,) combining our diverse artistic influences to create unique horror theatre pieces that are highly infectious and compelling.
Auditions for Laveau will be held on Sunday March the 10th from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at 5134 W 29th Avenue, (the building attached to Theater 29.) Rehearsals will begin in mid-March, and performances will be on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8:00 PM from April the 18th to May the 4th at Theater 29 in Denver.
Actors will be asked to read sides from the script, and copies of these sides are available upon request. Please bring a headshot and resume. All roles will be paid a stipend, and we are seeking to collaborate with driven artists that are passionate about theatre and developing new work as part of a brave collective.
