Sponsor one, Volunteer for one, Get Paid to work one....
ONEGS FOR THE NEW YEAR ARE HERE!
It’s a new membership year and with that comes a new oneg program! By now, you’ve all read the letters from our amazing and dedicated oneg committee explaining the history of our “hamish” volunteer oneg system and why we need your help! Now, we’re rolling out a refreshed oneg system to make oneg volunteering easier and more effective. It’s a three-way split: sponsor one, volunteer for one, get paid to work one! Check out the details of the levels below:
Sponsoring an oneg is a wonderful way to honor a simcha or the memory of a loved one! It’s also a great way for committees to shine light on the work they are doing! You may have already noticed throughout the past year that many members have been the sole volunteer host of the evening’s oneg as a way to celebrate or honor a person(s) or an event. If there is a yahrzeit coming up or a birthday you’d like to pay special tribute to, or if you are on a committee that would like to host a special night and spread awareness about the work you do, please consider sponsoring an oneg. Sponsorship opportunities will be available at 7:15 p.m. Music Shabbat or Traditional Shabbat services. Exceptions can be made if the service night you want to sponsor happens to be a 6:15 p.m. service - while not listed on the Sign Up Genius - we can make arrangements for you (contact Lorelei Berg to set it up).
Volunteer for One
Our welcoming nature here at CST can most definitely be felt through our commitment to volunteer led onegs and it’s important to keep that tradition going. People serving as volunteers who host on the same evening get to know one another while those attending services have a more personal, hamisch oneg experience, complete with fellowship and noshing. The responsibility of providing the oneg is split among all of our congregants. Each household is required to contribute to at least one oneg per year (while many enjoy it so much that they volunteer for many evenings and truly go above and beyond). It is important that each family honor their commitment of providing nosherie for at least one service each year, as well as doing the set-up and clean-up for the oneg. This one request also helps to keep our membership pledges more reasonable. These opportunities will be primarily limited to 6:15 p.m. services, although we have made some 7:15 p.m. service times available for volunteers as well. If you are interested in volunteering for a 7:15 p.m. service, please either consider the sponsorship option above or select one of the 7:15 p.m. volunteer nights shown on the Sign Up.
Since we know that busy lives and personal circumstances can make it difficult for everyone to volunteer, members may elect to pay $30 instead of volunteering to be a host. These funds are used to have a paid Oneg attendant about once a month (see section below for more details on this, if you’re interested). Go to shirtikvah.org > Make a Donation/Tribute and select "Oneg Donation."
Get Paid for One
Looking for an easy and fun way to earn a little cash? Enjoy entertaining, shopping or baking? Perhaps you’ve come to the right place! We are in search of members to join our oneg attendant team to help cover onegs for the membership year. Oneg attendants are occasionally used
to shop, bake, set-up and clean-up for onegs when volunteers aren’t available. There is one oneg attendant scheduled per service and that individual takes care of the entire oneg themselves. They will receive $50 for their efforts and can be reimbursed for up to an additional $50 for food that they purchase. We schedule oneg attendants based on need, but typically one every couple of months. Oneg attendant opportunities will be made available for select 7:15 p.m. services. Please contact Lorelei Berg ([email protected]) if you are interested in joining the team. The paid oneg attendant dates will only be publicized to the oneg attendant team and are not on this Sign Up.
Need more information on the “how-to’s” of onegs? A quick tutorial is all you’ll need! Trust us, it’s easy! Contact Lorelei Berg ([email protected] shirtikvah.org) and we’ll arrange a walk through of how it’s done!
