Missions & Service
RUMC will host up to four families on our campus from Sunday, November 3-10, 2019.
Guests arrive Sunday afternoon, are served dinner each evening, sleep as a family in the Dod first floor rooms converted to bedrooms for the week, leave for school or the Day Center around 7 a.m. each weekday morning, and return to RUMC around 6 or 7 p.m. Guests relax on Saturday, pack up before Sunday School, join us for worship, and then head to the next congregation in the afternoon.
For guests, Family Promise provides a safe, homelike shelter where families can stay together.
Key volunteer roles: providing dinner and dining with guests, spending the night in a separate room, room setup and take down. We need you if you can do any of the following for one day during the visit week:
What: Provide dinner, talk and listen, set up or take down, sleep, wash linens, welcome homeless children and their parents as guests - an easy opportunity to help homeless families directly and make a difference.
Who: Volunteers of all ages are needed. Great opportunity for families to volunteer together. Volunteers interacting directly with guests must attend training in advance.
Sign-up Instructions: To ensure that we do not overwhelm our guests with too many people, if you are bringing your family with you, please use a single sign-up slot only for each adult in your family and use the comments section to list all of your children under 16 who will be coming.
