Our class is participating in a giving project for a community of Christian families living in Albany in dire need. These families of believers were forced out of their homeland of Burma, and then spent years in refugee camps in Thailand before coming to Albany as refugees. This particular family is quite poor.
They speak very little English and yet go to school and worship in our city. They have humility, spirituality, and gratefulness for our interest and help. They have been in America a very short time and have never had anything new. They have never received a wrapped gift with their name on it, and are so excited by whatever they receive!
I believe we can bless this family with new items for Christmas.
Here is a list of suggestions:
(For most of the items, the number of slots doesn't matter, I just picked a number that seemed good. I can always add more if needed (just email me). Filling them up doesn't matter either, except if I specifically say.)
Some items are needs and some are "wish", however, they really don't have a lot so even their wishes aren't extravagant.
Please wrap and label the gift(s) and have your child bring it to school on Tues., Dec. 18 (not beforehand please, since we don’t have room). We’ll be delivering the presents to the family in person, before we go caroling.
Feel free to donate gently used items as well, but you can just send them in on Tuesday, Dec. 18, in bags (without wrapping them). They can always use things, but we want the presents to be new for them (they don't need to be expensive).
Please note: the items are just suggestions. If you want to get the family something totally different, that is fine. They are poor and don't have much of anything, so would be delighted with anything you already happened to have on hand or something you picked up as a good deal. The list is just to provide some ideas.
If you want to donate anonymously, just write "anonymous" instead of your name when you sign up.
THANK YOU so much for whatever you can give!
