NAMI Frederick will host an educational lecture titled "Supporting Children of Incarcerated Parents: One Group's Journey"

Presented by Shari Ostrow Scher

This Lecture will share:

  • Why this is an important topic from a national and local perspective
  • What are the issues that may impact the children and their families
  • Strategies for assisting and providing support
  • Strengths and challenges when working with this population

Shari Ostrow Scher is the founder and president of Children of Incarcerated Parents, Frederick County, a non-profit organization. In this role, she has given workshops around the country including recently at the First National Conference on Children of Incarcerated Parents in Phoenix Arizona in Winter 2018.  In 2006, Ms Scher was recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 women and in 2013, received the Maryland PTA Outstanding Educator Award. She is currently an adjunct professor and student intern supervisor at Hood College where she also coordinates special projects for Head Start and the Frederick Housing Authority. From 1985 until 2013, she served as an Early Childhood Curriculum Specialist with Frederick County Public Schools. Her educational achievements include a BA and MS in Early Childhood Education.
