Sky Valley ABATE
Volunteer Task Details
Candlesticks: Candlesticks are neon painted plastic poles with heavy rubber bases. They are obtained from the City of Snohomish the Wednesday before the Show. Candlesticks get assembled and "No Parking" signs are attached to notify the public of when parking restrictions will take effect.
Barricades: Barricades and Trash Cans are obtained the Friday before the Show from the City of Snohomish. On Saturday, the barricades are set out near to where they will be used during the Show and moved into place early on the morning of the Show.
Barricade Duty consists of standing (or sitting if you bring a chair) in front of a barricade and directing approaching traffic as necessary. This includes but is not limited to:
- Allowing motorcycles past the barricade to park on the street.
- Directing Motorcycle Show participants to the registration booth.
- Redirecting automobiles away from the show footprint/motorcycle parking areas.
Barricade volunteers will be given a staff tee shirt for identification (which they can keep), an informative map/schedule, and a radio for communication during their shift(s). Barricade volunteers are asked to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start of their agreed shift so we can orient them and answer questions. Sky Valley ABATE's Home Base will be in the parking lot on First Street between Union & Cedar. Barricades will be gathered at the end of the Show once all vendors have left and the streets can be opened to traffic.
Trash: Trikes with trailers are used to make intermittent trash collection rounds throughout the show. Trash collection volunteers will be given a staff tee shirt for identification (which they can keep) and are expected to patrol First Street to gather trash from bins as needed and dump it in the dumpster.
