Apple Tree Marathon, Half Marathon and 5k Sep 14-15, 2019 Volunteer Signup

Help us at the 2nd Annual APPLETREE Boston-Qualifying Marathon, Half Marathon & Sunset 5K. We need enthusiastic volunteers at a variety of stations to assist athletes and spectators along the course and in the main event site in Officers Row. The "Run Through History" course winds through Fort Vancouver, Officer's Row, the Army Barracks, Pearson Airport -, the Historical Old Apple Tree, along the majestic Columbia River and many other historical vantage points.

Event Details

Saturday September 14th

6:00pm - AppleTree 5K Sunset Run starts

Sunday September 15th

7:00am - AppleTree Marathon starts

8:00am - AppleTree Half Marathon starts

This event requires a ton of volunteers so if you can recruit friends, family, companies, churches, or sports teams to help that would be extremely helpful. They will get front row seats to all the action!

One of the great things about volunteering at a WHY Racing Event is that volunteers can either earn race credits or fundraise for another organization. :

Race Credits: For every hour volunteering, the volunteer will earn a $5 credit to go toward any Why Racing Event registration. You can volunteer for multiple shifts throughout an event. Multiple volunteers can earn credits for the same athlete.

Fundraising for Organizations: Our events offer a terrific fundraising opportunity for a club/organization (non-profit). Under our fundraising program, $20-$25 will be donated to the non-profit organization for each volunteer 4-6+hour shift depending on our needs (some conditions).

All volunteers will get a snack, gift, goody bag and be able to enjoy the post-race festivities.
We typically need about 100 volunteers over several days to help things run smoothly. There are several volunteer opportunities available, such as:

  • Packet Pickup – Hand out registration packets to athletes
  • Course Marshals – Keep athletes safely on the course
  • Water Stations - Provide refreshments and snacks to athletes
  • Finish Line Help -  Cheer on athletes as they cross the finish line, hand out water and medals to all finishers

Age Restrictions: We welcome volunteers of all ages, however we recommend volunteers be at least 12 or older.  Some volunteer assignments require volunteers to drive to the location, and some stations require adults only.

Review the volunteer assignments below, sign up for the task and time that works best for you, and then look for a confirmation in your Inbox. We will reach out to you with more details as we get closer to the event.  If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].

*NOTE* Please know that we try our hardest to keep all volunteers in the positions they originally request however, if critical race positions have not been filled by race morning we may ask you fill in a key position. Thank you so much, we couldn't do it without you!
