Dear Belmont parents and families,
Mr. Weingard (Physical Education Teacher) and Mrs. Farrell (Special Education Teacher) of Belmont Elementary are looking to bring back the Belmont Walking Club! During this new, optional, recess activity, Belmont students and teachers will walk a pre-planned route on school grounds, marking completed laps and earning "Toe Tokens" along the way. Students may walk the route as few or as many times as they would like during recess. The goal is to virtually cross the United States based on distance walked at recess!
However, in order to make this Walking Club happen, we need some volunteer help. Even though it is a walking club, volunteers don't actually need to walk! Instead, at least one volunteer is needed to wait by the starting bench, hand out the walking cards to participating students, and punch the cards as the students complete laps. If this sounds like a pleasant and fun way to spend time outside, please check your calendar to see if you can help out during a recess. The Walking Club will be held on Thursdays and Fridays, weather permitting, with two time slots available each day.
Please note that all volunteers need to meet MCPS and Belmont volunteer training requirements. For your reference, the online MCPS volunteer training may be found here: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/childabuseandneglect/#training
