Dear Belmont parents and families,
Let’s keep Walking Club going for a 2nd year!
Last year, we brought back Walking Club, an optional recess activity led by our Belmont teachers Mr. Weingard (Physical Education teacher), Mrs. Farrell (Special Education teacher), and Ms. McCanna (1st grade teacher). It was a huge success! During this activity, Belmont students and teachers walk a pre-planned route on school grounds, marking completed laps and earning “Toe Tokens” along the way. Students may walk (or run) the route as few or as many times as they would like during recess. In the 2018-2019 school year, Belmont students walked 2,512 miles during Walking Club!
We need your help!
We need at least one volunteer (although more are always welcome) to hand out the walking cards to participating students, punch the cards as students complete laps, and cheer them on. If this sounds like a pleasant and fun way to spend time outside, please check your calendar to see if you can help out during a recess.
Walking Club will be held every Thursday, weather permitting, with two time slots available each day. If we have enough volunteer help, we hope to include a second day later this school year.
Please note that all regular volunteers need to meet MCPS and Belmont volunteer training requirements. For your reference, the online MCPS volunteer training may be found here: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/childabuseandneglect/##training
