Richmond Parks & Recreation
The Women's Wilderness Series is presented by Richmond Parks & Recreation and the Richmond Outdoor Committee (ROCK).
The purpose series is to help women of all ages gain confidence and the skills they need to engage in outdoor recreation such as camping, hiking, backpacking, etc. Please register below.
The classes include:
- Backpacking Workshop (April 21st @ 6pm | Irvine McDowell Park - Large Shelter) - Taught by Dr. Sherry Jones of EKU's Recreation & Park Administration
- Women's Self-Defense (April 28th @ 6pm | Irvine McDowell Park -Field Area) - Taught by Gina Elliott of AFS Academy of Martial Arts & Fitness
- Women's Mapping/Orienteering Workshop (May 5th @6pm | Taylor Fork Ecological Area at 1 Hancock Taylor Lane)
- Women's Intro to Kayaking Workshop (May 12th @6pm |Lake Reba Park - Near Boat Dock)
- Wilderness Survival Skills Workshop (May 19th @6pm |Irvine McDowell Park - Large Shelter) Join us as we cover the five W's of wilderness survival: Wind, Water, Widowmakers, Wood & Wildlife.
- Women's Handgun Familiarity Class (June 9th @6pm-8pm | 2489 Box Ankle Road, Richmond, KY) Richmond Police Department will be providing a Women's Handgun Familiarity Class. Those who sign up will receive a waiver via email which will need to be returned before May 30th. This class will have a $25 fee that can be paid at the Richmond Parks & Recreation office.
- Women's Overnight Camping Trip (June 18th @ 5pm- At Taylor Fork Ecological Area
(1 Hancock Taylor Lane) -$10 fee with dinner & breakfast provided (Please pay fee at the Parks & Recreation Office) - Participants must be 18+ or if an adult is present 13+.
