The 2022 "Shoes for Kids" will be held on Saturday, November 12th at Calvary Lutheran Church, 6805 Bluegrass Drive (north of Clarkston off M-15).
We greatly appreciate your continued support and volunteering in the past. The plan is to make this year's SFK program bigger and better with Calvary Lutheran offering their church. Every effort will be made for social distancing. Hand sanitizer stations will be available.
Please consider asking people you know, family, business associates, friends or neighbors to join you in volunteering for such a worthwhile community service project helping Clarkston children. Most timeslots are in two hour shifts.
"SHOES FOR KIDS" VOLUNTEEERS NEEDED - PLEASE JOIN US !!
The Rotary Club of Clarkston's 42nd annual "Shoes for Kids" program will provide Clarkston Community School children with new shoes, winter boots, hats and gloves.
The annual event will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church, 6805 Bluegrass Dr. in Clarkston.
On Friday night, November 11th, we will be begin moving the inventory from a storage locker on Sashabaw @ Waldon (10 people are needed, begining @ 2:30 to 4:00 PM) to move from 2nd floor to trucks & trailer, Once at Calvary Lutheran we will be setting up tables and chairs, moving and setting up the shoe, boot, hat and glove inventories from about 4:00 PM until about 8:30 PM and getting ready for Saturday's SFK event. Over 40 volunteers are needed to complete the Friday night setup.
Volunteers wanting to signup but unable to be there around 4:00 PM are still welcome to sign up !!
On Saturday, November 12th "Shoes for Kids" will be hosting over 350 Clarkston school age children between 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM in groups of 25 to 30 every half hour. We have over 150 volunteer time slots throughout Saturday in two hour increments. After the event an additional 35 volunteers will be needed after 3:30 PM to help re-box the inventory, and load into vehicles and trailer, move tables and chairs, vacuum and clean in preparation for Sunday church services. 8 volunteers are also needed to move inventory from vehicles to storage locker ar Sashabaw Rd & Waldon Rd.
The Clarkston Optimist Club will be providing new socks through their "Opti-Socks" program.
The Clarkston Area Lions Club will offer "Project Kidsight" free eye exams (primarily for pre-school age children but also offered to the entire attending family).
Local dentists will be donating toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Personal hygiene products including body wash, shampoo, creme rinse, laundry soap, and deodorant will also be given out. Donations of these items are also needed and greatly appreciated. They can be brought to Calvary Lutheran Church on Friday night, November 11th.
Tables will be set up for new or gently used adult shoes and boots for adult parents or guardians. Donations will be accepted by calling Joel DeLong at (248) 625-9741 to make arrangements for pickup or drop off locations.
Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be making a special early visit to Clarkston.We greatly appeciate the efforts of Melvin and Alaina Hawley for their commitment. Photos with Santa will also be available to all attending families. Photos will be taken by by Bertakis Products (a local professional photographer).
This is a great opportunity for high school students or others needing Community Service Volunteer Hours
All volunteers are asked to sign-in at the volunteer check-in table least ten minutes before the beginning of their shift. A brief orientation and walk-through will be offered before beginning each shift.
Food and drinks will be made available throughout the day to volunteers working including those working multiple times.
Over the past twenty-four years "Shoes for Kids" has provided for over 10,500 Clarkston children and the community has generously donated over $300,000 to provide new shoes, boots, hats and gloves for Clarkston School children. The Rotary Club of Clarkston is greatly appreciative of the support shown by the Clarkston Community, both in commitment and donations.
100% of the donations made by purchasing a Rotary Club of Clarkston newspaper throughout Clarkston on Friday, Nov. 4th and Saturday, Nov. 5th and other dates allows us to help provide for the children of Clarkston
