Rocky Horror Picture Show, Cover to Cover at The Byrd Theatre
Director Monica Moehring seeks performing artists with heavy metal energy and strong singing voices for a very...pleasurable...Rocky Horror Picture Show!
About the Show: An interactive screening of the film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, with a live cast and band performing the soundtrack in sync with the film (or close enough!). The musicians backing this performance are the Trunk Show Band, who have been playing full-album Cover to Cover shows and curated Mix Tapes to enthusiastic audiences in Richmond since 2013.
There will be two shows on Sunday, October 30: 8 PM and 11 PM. Rehearsals will begin on or around the week of September 11, 2022. We will also cast four ensemble members (Phantoms). There will not be a callback.
Janet - A Betty and a Veronica.
Brad - An asshole.
Riff Raff - Quietly on the edge of insanity.
Magenta - Embraces and enjoys insanity.
Columbia - Once loved Frank, now loves Eddie. In the movie, Columbia tap dances. We are seeking performers with dance skills or other talents. What can you do to wow a crowd?
Dr. Everett V. Scott - A rival scientist. Vaguely European. Eddie's Uncle.
Rocky Horror - A Great Hunk of Spunk. A creation.
Eddie - A rock star.
The Criminologist - An expert, and our host throughout the entire event. Strong singing voice is not required.
Please note that the role of Dr. Frank N. Furter is precast.
You will be emailed the sheet music for your preferred role(s). As you prepare, please keep in mind that we will be performing the movie score and not the Broadway score.
Placebo, by Melissa James Gibson at ContrastRVA
About the Show: A minty green pill - medication or sugar? Louise is working on a placebo-controlled study of a new female arousal drug. As her work in the lab navigates the blurry lines between perception and deception, the same questions pertain more and more to her life at home. With uncanny insight and unparalleled wit, Melissa James Gibson's affectionate comedy examines slippery truths and the power of crossed fingers.
Paid roles with 14 performances throughout February 2023 (no weekday matinees). There will be a small stipend for rehearsals. Rehearsals are to begin on or about mid-November 2022 (to allow for a long winter break at the end of December and to incorporate understudies).
Director Maggie Roop seeks four versatile actors with excellent comedic timing. All roles are open, including understudies.
Louise: 30s, a medical resident conducting a placebo-controlled study of a new female arousal drug.
Jonathan: 30s, Louise's boyfriend, a PhD candidate struggling to finish his dissertation.
Tom: 30s or 40s, also a medical resident.
Mary: late 40s, a hopeful participant in Louise's study.
Please prepare a one-minute contemporary comedic monologue. When signing up for an audition slot, please indicate which role(s) you are interested in. Callbacks are TBA.
