First Presbyterian Church
Dear First Pres Family,
This winter we are joining again with five other faith communities in Evanston, to provide overnight shelter along with our normal warming shelter. This is a great opportunity to minister to the people of Evanston who are in need. To enable this to happen we are looking for volunteers from the church to help facilitate these dates.
This year Interfaith Action will be providing 2 staff members to stay overnight. But we still need one Overnight Volunteer *(9:30PM-7:00AM), and volunteers to set up each evening, and clean up each morning.
Two Evening volunteers will set up cots, put out sheets and blankets, prepare coffee etc., as well as greet and help those guests who are staying the night get settled. (8:00 M-9:30PM)
Two Morning clean up volunteers will be there to wake up the guests, tear down the rooms including putting away cots, blankets, etc.-while helping the guests move on to their next stop (6:00 AM-7:00 AM)
Currently our dates set aside for the Overnight Warming Center are - December 29-January 19. THE OVERNIGHT SHELTER WILL BE OPEN FOR ALL DATES LISTED ABOVE (This is a change in previous years when it was based on temperature).
If you have not already gone to a training for the event, let us know and we will update you on the training dates that are available.
Feel free to contact Charlene Parris ([email protected]) or Kelly Levander ([email protected]) for more details or information.
Please take a moment to look over your calendar with your small group or with a group of friends who might want to help. We think this will be a wonderful way to make our church an inviting place for those in need. Thanks for your help!
*Each of Overnight volunteers must undergo a background check and training to participate (if you have not completed one in the last 3 years). To fill out a background check form please click HERE - you may download it and drop the form off at the front desk attn: Kelly Levander
