SSN Festival 2018 Job Descriptions
Registration – Report to the Registration Desk a few minutes before your shift start time and ask for the Shift Supervisor. This position requires the volunteer to sit/stand behind a counter for the duration of the shift, helping check festival attendees in and give general directions. Volunteer should have knowledge of the Amway Grand Plaza and the registration process. Before leaving the shift, please make sure the person relieving you is trained on how to check-in registrants and what the basic duties of the area are.
Greeter – Volunteers are to report to the Registration Desk and find the Shift Supervisor scheduled during their shift. For the most part Greeters will be standing during their shifts, so please wear comfortable shoes. No dress code except big smiles! Greeters will energetically welcome festival attendees, talk to them while they are in line for the Registration and housing check-in process and generally contribute to warmly welcoming the festival attendees.
T-shirt Distributor – Volunteers please report to the Registration Desk and find the Shift Supervisor scheduled during their shift. No dress code, and the position requires sitting for the majority of the shift. T-shirt Distributors will take t-shirt tickets and give festival attendees the correct size t-shirt. Attendees receive their t-shirts only after going through registration, so volunteers must have the t-shirt ticket prior to giving an attendee a t-shirt.
Workshop Attendant – These volunteers will work with the Workshop Coordinator to greet presenters, make sure they have all the equipment they need in their room and give them workshop evaluation forms to have their attendees complete. Attendants will also help attendees find the correct rooms for their workshops. Volunteers should report to the third floor workshop area a few minutes before their shift. No dress code. This position requires volunteers to go from to room and do some trouble-shooting during their shift. There may be some opportunity to sit in on part of a workshop.
Festival Sales Shop – Report to the Registration Desk in the center concourse to check in, the shop is located in the Ruby Room. The shop is being run by Goldenrod Music, the business that is selling merchandise for the festival, as well as for individual choruses. Volunteers should arrive and ask for Susan Frazier. No dress code. This position requires volunteers to handle money. Some knowledge about music and/or sales is helpful. Goldenrod is hoping to have the same volunteers for multiple shifts, if at all possible.
Merchandise Table for Moira Smiley - Moira Smiley will be having her own merchandise table. These volunteers will be required to handle money and/or a money app on a phone/tablet.
Stage Hands – These volunteers must wear all black for performances as they will be onstage; no dress code for rehearsal time. When arriving for the shift in the Ambassador Ballroom, volunteers should report to the Stage Manager (SM). Responsibilities may include moving materials and equipment on and off stage during performances. Stage Hands should be scheduled for 2 shifts in the same day, the earlier SH shift is rehearsal and the second is performance. Ability to lift 45lbs without difficulty is required. Wear comfortable shoes, no real opportunity for sitting during the shift.
Pointer Sisters - These volunteers should arrive in the Ambassador Ballroom and report to the Stage Manager. Immediately following a group’s on-stage performance, the Pointer Sister will let performers know to stay on stage for an official photo. She will assist the photographer as needed then guide the group off stage toward the Center Concourse and around to the Crown Foyer entrance back into the Ambassador Ballroom where they may enter to watch the remainder of the performances. Be encouraging and congratulatory with the performers.
Ushers– Black clothing preferred. Volunteers should arrive in the Ambassador Ballroom a few minutes before the shift and report to the House Manager (HM). Ushers are responsible for tearing tickets, distributing concert programs, helping guests find seats and directing them to the appropriate sections, keeping people from entering the auditorium before it opens for the concert and during songs and generally ensuring that the house is quiet and orderly. Ushers will also assist HM in clearing the house when the concert ends, picking up programs, gathering items left behind, reminding audience members that they cannot “save seats” for the next concert.
Ticket Sales/Will-Call – Black clothing preferred. This is a position which requires the volunteer to be seated during the shift and also potentially to handle money. Volunteers should arrive a few minutes before the shift start time and report to the House Manager scheduled during the shift. Ticket Sales (TS) should expect primarily to provide will-call tickets to guests, and potentially sell a few tickets to non-attendees. At the beginning of the shift, TS is responsible for securing the cash box and then returning it to the Stage Manager at the end of the volunteer shift. Ticket Sales volunteer should be aware that festival participants with white or green badges are allowed entry free. Participants with salmon colored badges or no badge need to purchase or provide a ticket.
Transportation (drivers) - Will be responsible for transportation to and from the Gerald R. Ford International Airport and the Amway Grand Plaza/Aquinas as well as transportation to and from Aquinas and the Amway Grand Plaza. Drivers must have a valid driver's license. Drivers will be driving a 15-passenger van.
Drum Kit Liaison- Volunteer will be responsible for moving the drum kit from the storage area to the performance area and back again.
Amway Grand Plaza
