It's Pioneer Day at Jesse Jones Park! Visitors can travel back in time by making corn husk dolls, bonnets, lye soap, beeswax candles, and much more. See how the early inhabitants of Texas made and used their tools and weapons. A skirmish provides a living-history look at the authentic weaponry, costumes, and significance of Civil War battles. Volunteers and staff show visitors how early settlers built and protected their homesteads.
Student volunteers are needed for set-up and assistance with various events throughout the day. See below for slots and times. (Note that if you sign up for an ALL DAY shift, then you don't need to sign up again in Shifts 1 and 2. You are welcome to sign up for multiple shifts - e.g. helping with Shift 2 and Clean up).
The following is a message from our Jesse Jones Park Volunteer Coordinator, Brent Wilkins. Please read over the reminders carefully if you sign up to help!
Please remember to:
- Arrive 20 minutes early to allow for traffic/parking delays.
- Wear closed-toed shoes.
- Bring a refillable water bottle.
You shouldn't have trouble finding parking in the park if you are arriving early, especially since Jesse Jones has added a new parking area this year. In the event that anyone has to park in the back parking lot near the playground, they will have a hayride transporting people between there and the front of the park
When you arrive:
Check in at the Information Table/Volunteer Check-In for your assignment/directions.
Thanks for helping out!
