Bucks County Opportunity Council
Welcome! We are so glad that you are interested in helping low-income Bucks residents with their taxes, through the Bucks County Opportunity Council's VITA program!
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance- it is a lifeline for those who rely on their return for car repairs, paying off bills and buying oil or heat for the winter, and clothes for their children.
Bill Pasko will be providing the training, with some assistance from other tax volunteers as well.
Thank you Bill!
The two November sessions are primarily for new volunteers, but there are spots for returning volunteers as well. New volunteers would ideally attend both sessions (if possible).
Greeters or non-tax preparation volunteers- please sign up for ONE of the training sessions, so that during the first hour you will receive information on BCOC as well as how to log in and complete your certification. Non-tax prep volunteers need to complete one certification only, Standards of Conduct.
Tentative agenda for 11/10- Orientation as a BCOC volunteer; online certification account set-up for testing and software access; review of high-level aspects of the tax service; practice return. There will be homework to prepare for training day #2.
Tentative agenda for 11/17- Orientation as a BCOC volunteer; online certification account set-up for testing and software access; Tax return topics (TBD)
January training- This is tentative and subject to change, but the idea is that the first two dates (January 5 and 12) will be again primarily for new volunteers, particularly if there are new volunteers who cannot make the November sessions.
The last two dates (January 19 and 26) are for all volunteers, new and returning, to cover various tax topics, new tax year changes, and PA state tax law.
If you are a new volunteer, and cannot make any weekend training, please reach out to Bill or Eileen. Bill also offers training for the TCE (Tax Counseling for the Elderly) program, our counterpart for seniors, on weekdays, and may be able to accommodate some VITA folks if necessary.
