Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation
Please sign up for a section of beach where you or your group would like to collect trash. Many of the smaller sections of beach are just right for a family to handle and larger sections will allow for several small groups to participate in an independent manner. Although we limited many sections to 2 sign-ups, larger groups or families can participate together. Every year, we keep track of the amount and kind of garbage collected as part of the International Coastal Cleanup, using the CleanSwell app (preferred) or provided data sheets.
Parking and transporting collected trash to SCCF will be the participant's responsibility. Garbage bags, gloves, and data sheets will be available during the week prior to the event at Sanibel Sea School (455 Periwinkle Way; Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm). On the day of the event from 9am-12pm, collected garbage may be dropped off at SCCF offices (3333 Sanibel-Captiva Road). A limited amount of free event t-shirts will also be available.
Because of the ongoing beach renourishment project on Captiva this year, we are unsure of the access and availability of beach to clean, therefore we are asking for flexibility. Our partners at 'Tween Waters Island Resort and Spa will have a volunteer coordinator on site for check-in, parking, and trash disposal. We will try to cover as much beach as possible on Sept. 18, depending on the current construction activity. You will be able to collect trash bags, gloves, t-shirts, and water at this location and dispose of your collected trash after the event.
Please sign up below. There is a link to a map of the beach assignments as well as City of Sanibel parking options.
