Family Promise

Apartment Shelter Project (2BR)

Family Promise of Greater Indianapolis is renting and furnishing apartments to be used this year as emergency homeless shelters for families until they can find permanent housing.  They are using this new model while congregations are closed and can't host families as usual in their Interfaith Hospitality Network program.

Can you support this effort by buying or donating a new or gently used item on this needs list?  Our goal is to have all the items by September 15.  Ther faster the better, though, because some units might be under lease as soon as September 1 if we can have the items ready!  Just sign your name up next to an item(s), then go buy it, order it, or find it used.  Using this list avoids duplicate purchases of the same item.

All Souls Volunteers: In person donations, including gift cards and checks made out to ‘Family Promise of Greater Indianapolis’, from any congregation may be delivered to Doris Cantrell, 5817 Common Cir., Indianapolis, 46220, 317-253-6826 (call first). Commercial deliveries by UPS, USPS, Amazon, etc. may be sent to Cathy Tanner, 6635 Avila Way, Fishers, 46038, 317-514-2194.  Questions? Text Judy at 317-823-7302.

Carmel United Methodist Church Volunteers:Please write “CUMC”  next to your name in the “comments” section of Sign Up Genius.  Please deliver all items to the home of Don and Carla Bennett, 1489 Springmill Ponds Blvd., Carmel, IN 46032, before September 15, 2020.  Place things on the front or back porch.  Call with  any questions, Bennett home # 317-566-1421.  Mark Bourgea cell # 317-316-7966.

Congregational UCC Volunteers:Donations may be made in person at First Congregational UCC, 7171 N. Pennsylvania (rear patio entrance), between 9:30 and noon on Saturday, Aug. 15th, 22nd, and 29th.  Commercial donations may be shipped c/o Sandy Wood, 8004 River Bay Drive East, Indianapolis IN 46240.  Gift card donations should be made in person at the church (317 319-0806) or at Sandy's (317 863-8238) - call ahead to schedule.  Or, simply mail a check to the church (specify FP apts on memo line).  Thank you!

Please do not buy expensive items, but only affordable ones, as Family Promise will be replacing them frequently due to the high level of use the items will get.

When all items are collected, we will move them into a vacant apartment using Family Promise's trailer as soon as a lease is signed.

Furniture is being collected separately by Family Promise's partner Mustard Seed, a nonprofit furniture bank in Fishers, IN.  If you have gently used furniture to donate, call them at 317-572-5724 (they pick up).  It may find it's way to one of the apartment shelters eventually!

Thank you for your support, as we could not do this without you!
