Summer Book Club for All Ages with Pastor Greta

Educating ourselves about the experiences of others is an excellent way to build compassion and understanding.  With that in mind, we’ve chosen two books to read and discuss in the West church parking lot this summer.  Bring your own chair and refreshments.  Adults, youth, and children are all encouraged to attend.  Sign up for one or both.  Books and dates are as follows:

Monday, July 19 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.

The Distance Between Us: A Memoir by Reyna Grande describes the author’s childhood torn between the United States and Mexico, and shines a light on the experiences, fears, and hopes of those who choose to make the harrowing journey across the border.  The memoir is also available in a Young Reader edition which makes this a great choice for all ages.

Wednesday, August 11 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.

Look Both Ways: A Tale Told in Ten Blocks by Jason Reynolds, a National Book Award Finalist, that shows the different paths a kids’ walk home can take. A middle-grade read, the book is easy to read, but difficult to forget as it reminds us that perspective is everything and compassion is key.  This book can be enjoyed by all ages.  Elizabeth and Isabell Ross were involved in a book discussion earlier this year here in Waukesha and highly recommend this book.  NOTE: This discussion will be followed by an optional neighborhood prayer walk from 7:30 – 8:00 pm.
